When I first moved to Christchurch, I knew no one, and had no family there. Thanks to Chester House and the OTBC community it soon felt like home. – Renee

Supported Christian Accommodation for Young Adults

Are you a Christian school leaver or young adult aged 17-20 moving to Christchurch for study or work in 2024?

Then Chester House might be for you!

We know the transition out of home to a new town can be hard, which is why we offer a supported Christian living environment to make that first year of flatting a little bit easier.

Chester House is supported by a dedicated supervisor and young adult community from Oxford Terrace Baptist Church. Pastoral Oversight is provided by a minister from Oxford Terrace, ensuring a close connection to the church community.

Chester House is part of the wider Oxford Terrace Housing Community, a collection of homes on the church site, where neighbours connect and foster a sense of community together.

The House

Chester House is a brand new three-story apartment on Chester Street East, within walking distance of Christchurch’s central city. The central city location makes it the ideal location for Ara students, while the University of Canterbury campus is only a 20-minute bus or bike ride across town.

Chester House comes furnished and ready to move into. The modern heat-retaining design, along with double-glazed windows and heat pump, provides warmth through the cold winter months.

The Bedrooms

Each bedroom comes with basic furniture including a bed, storage and optional desk.

Room options include $200/week for a standard room (four available) and $160/week for a small room (one available). Rent is paid one week in advance and is charged from your move-in date until the move-out date you specify upon your acceptance into Chester House.

Power and internet is charged at $10/week. Other weekly expenses like shared food and household supplies are to be negotiated by flatmates.

A bond equivalent to two-weeks rent is required prior to move-in, which will be returned following completion of the final inspection.
