HISTORY
After the 2011 earthquakes Oxford Terrace Baptist Church reimagined what could be built on the land. The church decided to build spaces where people could live, work and worship. There is a church auditorium, offices, community spaces and a cafe on site.
Warm affordable apartments are now being built with an intention to foster a sense of community in the central city between neighbours.
COMMUNITY FOCUS
Oxford Terrace Housing Community is a safe, welcoming place to live for people big and small. Each household has their own private dwelling but can also connect with neighbours out in the shared garden, or by joining in weekly pot-luck meals.
No cars onsite means a safe place for tamariki (children) to play, and a larger common garden for neighbours to enjoy. Neighbours can also enjoy benefits of living in the Central City with Margaret Mahy playground, Tūranga library, Hagley Park, shops etc. all within walking distance.
HOUSING
There are 14 apartments on site for rent, including 5x two-bedroom (some accessible units available), 6x four-bedroom, and 3x five-bedroom units. There will be one onsite accessible car park, otherwise, offsite parking is available for lease. Half of the apartments are allocated for applicants on the social housing register. Rent by room accommodation options are also available.
SHARED FACILITIES
Common facilities include a central courtyard, vegetable garden and orchard, access to community hall, bike and storage sheds. There is the opportunity to access free community internet and below-market rate power.
